Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Eta Omega Zeta Chapter was officially chartered on March 15, 1975 in Athens, Georgia under the mentorship and direction of Mrs. Harriet B. Green and Dr. Eunice S. Thomas.
There were 5 charter members: Katheryn B. Davis, Margaret W. Tribble (1945 - 2023) , Johnnie B. Smith (1934-2022), Bettye (Thompson) Stroud (1938 - 2020), and Elizabeth Ann Sims (Deceased). These members were determined, dedicated and distinguished women who sincerely believed in the principals and values of our beloved sorority: Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood.


The chapter continues to be committed to opportunities afforded by Zeta’s national signature programs such as Z-hope (Zetas Helping Other People Excel through mind, body and spirit), Stork’s Nest; March of Dimes; Finer Women Don’t Haze; Elder Care and Adopt a School Initiatives. The chapter continues to demonstrate a dedication to service to the Athens community and surrounding areas through voter registration events, partnerships with Lay Park, Burton Care Home, Stroud Elementary School, and Books for Keeps. Further, the chapter initiated “Baxter Street Clean Up” with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Eta Omega Zeta proudly claims outstanding leadership in the national organization as hall of fame recipients and state, regional and national officers.

Eta Omega Zeta chapter members believe in “being at the table” for advocacy, change and action in the community. The chapter was instrumental in formation of the Amicae Auxiliary of Athens, first Stork’s Nest Project in Athens, charter member of the Athens Alumni NPHC organization, Blue Revue, Blue and White Picnic, initiated with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; UGA Scholarship for Academic Excellence named for a chapter member, chapter recipient of the Athens Human Relations Council, Inc. Community service award. Members received the Pioneer’s Award. Eta Omega Zeta Chapter – Athens is committed to the continuation of the history of the superior delivery of services to the communities in which we live and will always be dedicated to making a profound difference in the lives of others through organized community service.
